Leather Care & Instructions
LOOKING AFTER YOUR NEW LEATHER SUITE
THE LOOK OF YOUR LEATHER
This information is to explain the features of leather and to assist you in the future care of your furniture. Genuine leather is a creation of nature and therefore no two hides are identical. They vary in size and structure.
VARIATION IN SHADE
They dyes and finishes used in creating the colour will penetrate differently depending on the grain structure creating attractive variations. Although it takes many hides to produce a suite and we make every attempt to obtain consistency, there may be slight variation in colour. This coupled with other natural features of the hide create its natural beauty. Hence, colour swatches are provided as a guide only.
Modern tanning processes give the leather a soft touch that will always maintain its suppleness. Creases will naturally develop during the initial usage of your furniture. Natural aspects of the material have been considered and respected during the designing of the product, to give it a soft and inviting look which is one of the many attractions of leather furniture. The beauty of leather is in its individuality. As a natural product it displays traces of its past. These hallmarks are not faults and will not reduce the wearing qualities of your furniture. They are in fact proof that your leather is authentic.
NATURAL BEAUTY OF LEATHER
Leather, unlike any other upholstery material, has its own unique character and timeless quality. With use, the leather will develop a patina which will enhance its natural beauty. As the owner, you will grow to appreciate and cherish the qualities of your leather.
CLEANING
In today’s modern society, our furniture is used more extensively. Therefore, regular cleaning will prolong and preserve the quality of your leather.
Dust your furniture often to avoid grit and grime from getting into the pores, which will have an abrasive and damaging effect. Wipe your furniture every week with a damp cloth wrung out in a mild solution of warm soapy water.
IMPORTANT: Take care not to ‘over wet’ your leather. Treat stains and spillages as described above immediately before they are absorbed into your leather. Avoid using any polishes, creams, detergents, solvents, varnishes or stain removers as they can damage or discolour your leather. We will not accept responsibility for any damage which may occur due to usage of any of these products. Always avoid using dyes cloths as there may be a risk of the dye transferring onto your leather.
HEAT AND LIGHT
DO NOT expose your furniture to direct sunlight or hear sources [i.e., radiators]. Long periods of exposure will result in the fading and drying of your leather.
GENERAL CARE
Our suites are designed to be sat on comfortably and correctly. Incorrect usage can result in damage and permanent wear. Do not sit on the edge of the cushions, arms and backs. Avoid contact with sharp objects as they can cause unsightly damage. Discourage children from playing and jumping on your furniture. Do not allow domestic pets to clamber or claw at your furniture.
LIFE CYCLE
Give your leather suite the respect it deserves. It will not last a lifetime but by following the above guidelines it will ensure a prolonged life span.
